Throughout the year, our dedicated team passionately engages in various activities to make a significant difference in the lives of pets and their owners. We understand that every small effort counts for pet charities, and our collective actions can lead to substantial change.

As a Texas pet sitting company that deeply cares about animal welfare, we’ve found unique and impactful ways to contribute to this cause. One of our innovative approaches is using the GPS dog walk tracking app Doggy Logs, which generously donates 1% of its revenue to pet charities each year. This collaboration aligns with our values and amplifies our ability to support those in need. As we embrace the spirit of giving this holiday season, we’re excited to donate to the following admirable pet charities:

Pets of the Homeless: This compassionate organization provides vital food and emergency veterinary care to pets of individuals experiencing homelessness, ensuring that these pets, often the only companions for their owners, receive the care they need.

Austin Pets Alive!: A leader in the no-kill movement, Austin Pets Alive! has been instrumental in saving thousands of cats and dogs from euthanasia. Their innovative programs cater to animals typically overlooked in shelters, making them a beacon of hope in the community.

Mazie’s Mission: This nonprofit veterinary clinic serves only pets in the rescue system, focusing on underserved, homeless, and abused pets, showcasing an extraordinary commitment to animal welfare.

Feral Friends: Specializing in feline welfare, their TNR (trap/neuter return) program and adoption efforts for tame cats demonstrate their dedication to reducing feline overpopulation and ensuring every cat has a chance at a better life.

Maui Humane Society: With an impressive live release rate and innovative programs, they work tirelessly to protect and save the lives of Maui’s animals, making a profound impact on the island’s animal welfare.

The Best Homemade Pet Treat Recipes for Thanksgiving https://vippets.net/homemade-pet-treat-recipes/ https://vippets.net/homemade-pet-treat-recipes/#respond Thu, 19 Oct 2023 12:00:02 +0000 https://vippets.net/?p=1038 Thanksgiving is right around the corner! It is a time of family, friends, and giving thanks for the great many blessings in life. Show your dog or cat the ultimate gratitude by giving them a pet friendly Thanksgiving this year. Thanksgiving is more than just a human holiday, so as Dallas and Austin’s most experienced pet sitters, we’ve put together a list of homemade pet treat recipes.

It’s a time when we gather with family and friends to express our gratitude for life’s many blessings. And, for pet lovers, it’s also an incredible opportunity to show our beloved four-legged companions just how much we appreciate them with some homemade pet treat recipes. Type ‘homemade pet treat recipes’ into any search engine and you will be presented with MILLIONS of results. Plus, there are almost as many links for ‘dog or cat treat recipes’ out there as well! So where do you start?

THE DOS AND DON’TS OF MAKING HOMEMADE PET TREAT RECIPES

As you prepare the grand Thanksgiving feast for your human family, don’t forget to extend the love to your canine and feline family members. Just like us, our pets can relish some of the holiday’s delectable flavors. Here are some pet-friendly ingredients that your dogs can enjoy.

SAFE (IN MODERATION)

Man makes homemade pet treat recipes for his cat who watches onTurkey: The star of the Thanksgiving feast, cooked, boneless, and unseasoned turkey is a treat your dog will drool over. It’s packed with protein and a Thanksgiving essential. When sharing this tasty morsel with your dog, ensure it’s free of bones and seasonings to keep it safe for their consumption.

Pumpkin: This orange superfood isn’t just for pies. It’s loaded with fiber and vitamins, making it a healthy addition to your pet’s diet. Pumpkin can help with digestion and is often recommended for pets with tummy troubles. Whether served as a treat or mixed into their regular food, it’s a nutritional boost your pet will appreciate. Just beware that cinnamon and other seasonings in pumpkin dishes may not be safe.  Raw or unseasoned cooked pumpkin is best.

Sweet Potatoes: Rich in fiber and nutrients, mashed sweet potatoes are a delightful side dish that your dog will love. They provide a sweet and tasty addition to their meal, and the fiber in sweet potatoes can aid in digestion. Just remember to serve them plain, without added sugars or seasonings. Okay, maybe ONE marshmallow won’t hurt.

Green Beans: Crispy green beans are a low-calorie, high-fiber treat that’s great for your pup. Whether you’re looking for a crunchy snack or a healthy topper for their meal, green beans are a fantastic choice. They’re a source of vitamins and minerals and can help your dog feel full without excess calories. While green beans can be a staple in homemade pet treat recipes, hold the creamy soups and French fried onions, please.

Gravy: In moderation, plain turkey gravy without any seasonings is a special Thanksgiving delight for your pet. A drizzle of gravy can add a burst of flavor to their meal. However, it’s crucial to keep it plain, free from additives like onions or garlic, which can be harmful to pets. Sodium content is also a concern, as most gravy is loaded with salt. Too much can be harmful to your pet’s kidneys and lead to accidents when they drink more water to flush out the excess.

Cranberry Sauce: A small spoonful of cranberry sauce can add a burst of flavor to your pet’s meal. Cranberries are often used in pet foods, and in moderation, cranberry sauce can be a delightful addition to their Thanksgiving dinner. Ensure the sauce is free from xylitol and other harmful additives.

While sharing these tasty treats with your pets can enhance their holiday experience, it’s equally important to be aware of what not to share. Be sure and avoid the items in the list below, which can be harmful to your pets.

NEVER FEED THESE FOODS

NO Yeast Dough: Yeast can expand in their stomach and lead to gastric upset, causing discomfort and potential health issues.

NO Alcohol, Coffee, and Chocolate: These substances are toxic to pets and should be kept far away from them to ensure their safety.

NO Macadamia Nuts and Nutmeg: Best kept away from pets as they can cause various health issues, including neurological problems.

NO Avocado and Onion: These foods are toxic to both dogs and cats and should never be on their menu to prevent potentially serious health issues.

NO Grapes and Raisins: These fruits can be harmful to pets and should be strictly avoided, as they can lead to kidney problems.

NO Fatty Foods: While a bit of turkey is okay, too much fatty food can lead to pancreatitis in some pets, a condition that can be painful and severe. So, keep the skin off to avoid tummy troubles.

NO Sage: While a common Thanksgiving spice, it can cause stomach upset and even central nervous system depression in pets. So, it’s best to keep it out of their reach and safely stored away from curious paws.

This Thanksgiving, make sure to share the love with your pets while keeping their health and safety in mind. Now, let’s dive into some wonderful homemade pet treat recipes to make their holiday even more special. We spent way too much time scrolling Pinterest to find some of the best homemade pet treat recipes on the internet.

Here are some of our favorite homemade pet treat recipes from around the web:

HOMEMADE PET TREAT RECIPES FOR VIP PETS

PUMPKIN POOCH PLEASERS

The texture of “Pumpkin Pooch Pleasers” will be somewhat cake-like and slightly chewy, so don’t be surprised if a human mistakes them for dessert. These bars are designed to have a moist and soft interior, which makes them one of the best homemade pet treat recipes for senior dogs and puppies.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup canned pumpkin (make sure it’s pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 tablespoons carob powder (a dog-safe alternative to chocolate)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan or use a silicone mold for fun shapes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the canned pumpkin, unsweetened applesauce, and water. Mix well to create a smooth and creamy pumpkin base.
  3. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, melt the carob powder. You can do this by heating it in the microwave in 10-15 second increments until it becomes smooth. Carob is a dog-friendly alternative to chocolate.
  4. Add the melted carob to the pumpkin mixture and stir until it’s well incorporated. This will give your bars a hint of chocolate flavor.
  5. In another bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and rolled oats to create your dry mixture.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the pumpkin and carob mixture until it forms a thick, sticky dough.
  7. Press the dough into your greased baking pan or silicone mold. Smooth it out so that it’s evenly distributed.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the bars are firm and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely before removing them from the pan or mold.
  10. Once cooled, you can cut them into fun shapes using dog-themed cookie cutters, or simply into small squares.

The 8 Best Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Plano, TX https://vippets.net/the-best-dog-friendly-restaurants-in-plano/ https://vippets.net/the-best-dog-friendly-restaurants-in-plano/#respond Thu, 31 Aug 2023 15:56:33 +0000 https://vippets.net/?p=5827 IS YOUR FIDO A FOODIE?

Well, you’re in luck if you call Plano home.  With a wide variety of dog-friendly restaurants, Plano pet owners have the perfect opportunity to enjoy a meal without leaving their furry friends behind. Our dogs love spending quality time with us, and including them in our dining experiences can make for memorable outings. As Plano’s preferred pet sitter, we have dug up all the dirt on the best dog-friendly restaurants to grab a bite with your favorite four-legged companion.

THE BENEFITS OF DINING OUT WITH YOUR DOG

Taking your dog out to eat extends far beyond the joy of sharing a delicious meal together. It opens up a world of benefits and experiences that enrich both your lives. From strengthening your bond to promoting socialization and exploring new environments, dining out with your dog enhances the overall dining experience and creates lasting memories for both of you.

STRENGTHENS BOND

One of the primary advantages is the opportunity to spend quality time with your furry friend, which helps strengthen the bond between you and your canine companion. By sharing a meal at a restaurant, you create lasting memories and engage in shared experiences that deepen your connection and reinforce the love and trust you have for each other.Dining out with dog in Plano Tx

IMPROVES SOCIALIZATION

Another significant benefit is the chance for socialization that dining out provides. Your dog can experience new environments, encounter different people, and interact with other animals in a controlled setting. This exposure helps your dog become more well-rounded and confident, enhancing their social skills and contributing to their overall behavioral development. In a dog-friendly restaurant, your pup may have the chance to meet other friendly dogs, receive attention from pet-loving staff, and even enjoy the affection of fellow diners. Such positive social interactions help reduce anxiety in public settings and promote emotional well-being.

SENSORY ENRICHMENT

Dining out with your dog allows you both to enjoy the outdoors, taking advantage of beautiful patio settings or spacious garden areas. This outdoor experience not only offers a change of scenery but also provides sensory stimulation and mental enrichment for your dog. They can bask in the fresh air, observe their surroundings, and benefit from the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. This exposure to different environments helps prevent boredom and promotes a healthy and stimulated mind.

OVERALL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

It can even contribute to your and your dog’s overall fitness and well-being. Many dog-friendly restaurants are located in areas that are ideal for walking, offering nearby parks or scenic paths where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll before or after your meal. The combination of exercise and social interaction contributes to a healthier and happier dog.

PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WHEN DINING OUT WITH YOUR DOG

While dining out with your dog can be enjoyable, it’s essential to be mindful of other patrons and the restaurant staff. Here are some etiquette tips to ensure a positive experience for everyone:

Well-Behaved and Leashed

Ensure your dog is well-behaved, comfortable in social settings, and properly trained. Keep your dog on a leash at all times to maintain control and prevent any potential disturbances. If you are just beginning socialization training with your dog it’s best to visit dog-friendly restaurants during non-peak hours to avoid excessive distractions.

Outdoor Seating Only

Respect the restaurant’s policy by keeping your dog in designated outdoor areas. Avoid bringing your dog inside the establishment, as it may be against health regulations.  It’s a good idea to call ahead to be sure there is space available. Some restaurants have a limited number of pet tables available, so reservations may be required.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

Bring waste bags and promptly clean up after your dog. Carry water and a portable bowl for your dog’s hydration needs. Be considerate of other guests and maintain a clean environment.

Noise and Disturbances

If your dog tends to bark excessively or becomes anxious in busy environments, it may be best to choose quieter times or opt for restaurants with more spacious outdoor areas. You can also employ the help of a professional dog trainer who can assist with socializing your dog in unfamiliar environments.

Comfort and Safety

Ensure your dog is comfortable with the surroundings and has access to shade and fresh water. Avoid leaving your dog unattended, and be aware of potential hazards such as hot surfaces or harmful foods. It is not uncommon with patio dining to have food on the ground that could potentially cause a bad reaction for your dog. Always be on the look out for safety issues.

While you enjoy your meal, don’t forget to pamper your pup with some special attention. Consider ordering a dog-friendly dish or treat from the menu if available. Bring along a favorite blanket or toy to make your dog feel more at ease. Take breaks to interact with your dog, allowing for short walks or moments of play. Capture the memories by snapping some adorable pictures of your dog enjoying the outing.

After all, the last thing you need to worry about while frolicking in the waves and basking in the sun on your honeymoon is whether or not your furry family member is being taken care of.

Pets in weddings. It’s the new norm. As Carrie Underwood put it: “[My dog] will be one of the ring bearers – he’s like my kid…[he] is such a big part of my life.” Involving your 4 legged family member in your wedding these days is nothing short of apropos…a modern day “furry tail” dream come true.

Some Fun Ways Pet Moms Can Celebrate Mother’s Day https://vippets.net/some-fun-ways-pet-moms-can-celebrate-mothers-day/ https://vippets.net/some-fun-ways-pet-moms-can-celebrate-mothers-day/#respond Tue, 05 May 2015 08:59:59 +0000 https://vippets.net/?p=498 With Mother’s Day right around the corner, many pet moms find themselves just as eager to celebrate the holiday with their furry children as any mother.  Although our pets can’t make it out to the store to buy gifts and cards, there are plenty of fun ways pet moms can celebrate Mother’s Day.

Here are some ideas on how to celebrate with the special pet in your life.

For Dog Parents:

Any dog parent will tell you that their dog is happiest when they are spending time with their “humom” or “hudad.” So for Mother’s Day, the best way to celebrate is to spend some quality time with your canine child.  Go for a hike or even a simple walk around the block with your dog and enjoy the beautiful weather. Many restaurants are opening up their patios and sidewalks as the weather warms up, so take your dog out to lunch at a pet-friendly restaurant and enjoy a special treat with them.  Even something as simple as buying your dog a new collar or sweater is a fun way to celebrate the holiday.

For Cat Parents:

A cat is more of a homebody than their canine compatriots. However, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate the holiday with them!  Search online to find some recipes for homemade cat treats and whip up a batch for your kitty.  Open the windows and let your cat chirp at the birds and enjoy the May sunshine.  Share a new toy or some catnip with your four-pawed child and enjoy some extra snuggles on the couch.

For All Other Pet Parents:

The best way to celebrate this day with any pet is to take some extra time to show your love and affection for them and allow them to return the favor.  Extra treats and new toys specific to your pet will bring you happiness through your pet’s enjoyment.

For most pet parents, nothing brings more joy than seeing their pet happy and healthy.  So take time on Mother’s Day to share some extra play and snuggles with your pet child.  And of course, make sure you take pics of your holiday adventures so you can remember them for years to come!

Heading out to celebrate Mother’s Day without your pet? VIP Pet Services is here for you! Contact us today for your pet services needs.
